Tjesse studied Management, Economics and Law (with a specialisation in Real Estate) at Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen and subsequently Dutch Law (with a focus on Corporate Law) at the University of Groningen. In 2004, he began his career as a legal professional at a law firm in Bolsward and was admitted to the Dutch Bar in the same year. From 2010 onwards, he worked at a mid-sized law firm in Heerenveen, where he gained extensive experience primarily in family and personal law, as well as in criminal law and general civil law. This broad background enabled him to develop into a versatile civil litigation lawyer.
As of 1 September 2025, Tjesse has been working as an attorney at Customs Knowledge, where his main focus lies on customs law and related civil law matters. He advises and represents companies in civil disputes, with particular attention to customs-related obligations, risk allocation and compliance within international trade relationships.
Alongside his work in customs law, Tjesse continues to maintain a partial family law practice. In this context, he has for many years regularly assisted entrepreneurs, including in complex divorce proceedings, the settlement of matrimonial assets and disputes involving corporate structures and business interests.
For Tjesse, the combination of customs law and family law is not a contradiction, but a strength. His experience with entrepreneurs, analysing corporate structures and balancing commercial and personal interests enables him to operate effectively in customs law matters where business interests are central. The civil law expertise, litigation experience and strategic approach he has developed in family law are also applied in complex customs law disputes.
Tjesse is known for his practical and solution-oriented approach, combined with a thorough legal analysis.
Outside of work, Tjesse is an active member of Rotary Club Heerenveen, where he has served as treasurer since mid-2025. He is a devoted family man. At weekends, he enjoys spending time with his wife, children and their dog. He likes to stay active through running, bodyfit training, skiing and snorkelling. He also enjoys walking, reading, attending concerts and sharing good food with family and friends.
Tjesse is registered with the Dutch Bar Association (Nederlandse Orde van Advocaten) in the legal practice areas of Family and Personal Law and General Civil Law.
