Modernisation of sanctions legislation: overview of the proposed amendments
Dutch sanctions legislation is undergoing a comprehensive revision. The current Sanctions Act 1977 is no longer suited fit to fulfill its role. Geopolitical developments and the increasing use of sanctions as a policy instrument, make amendment of the Sanctions Act 1977 necessary. The Council of Ministers has therefore submitted a legislative proposal for the International Sanctions Measures Act (in Dutch: Wet internationale sanctiemaatregelen). The Council of State has since issued its opinion. We will discuss the four most important developments below.
